DEVELOPMENT
Backbone Theatre for Babies is carefully designed to be developmentally appropriate for infants and toddlers, ensuring that every element supports their cognitive, sensory, and social growth. Each performance is tailored to specific age groups (0-1, 1-2, and 2-3 years), recognising the rapid developmental changes in early childhood.
Through gentle storytelling, interactive play, and sensory-rich experiences, such as soft lighting, varied textures, and age-appropriate movement, the theatre becomes a space for exploration and connection. The performances encourage curiosity, language development, and early social engagement while fostering a sense of familiarity with the theatre-going experience.
By creating a responsive and inclusive environment, Backbone Theatre for Babies supports both child development and caregiver connection, offering a shared experience that nurtures confidence, creativity, and joy.
ACCESSIBILITY
Backbone Theatre for Babies is designed to be as accessible as possible, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive experience for all families. We recognise that attending theatre with an infant or toddler can feel daunting, so we’ve created a relaxed, judgment-free environment where caregivers and little ones can engage in whatever way feels right for them. Our performances are built with flexibility in mind; babies can feed, cry, nap, or explore freely without fear of disrupting the show.
Change facilities are available within the performance space for ease and comfort, and we provide carer resources to support mental health and well-being. By prioritising accessibility in both our space and approach, we ensure that every family can enjoy theatre in a way that feels safe, supported, and stress-free.
